A Richland County jury convicted Derrick McLemore of armed robbery on Aug. 24. The Honorable Christopher Taylor sentenced McLemore to 12 years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

On June 20, 2024, McLemore picked up a 24-pack of Bud Light from a Food Lion shelf. As he left the store, an employee asked McLemore to put the pack of beers down.

McLemore then pulled out a 12-inch metal object and threatened to stab the employee. Out of fear of being stabbed, the employee ran.

McLemore left the store. Law enforcement found McLemore near the Food Lion and arrested him.

Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office Assistant Solicitors Paul Walton and John Yurco prosecuted the case. City of Columbia Police Department Master Patrolman Antonio Anderson led the investigation.
