Man Found Guilty of Assaulting Female Friend

On May 23, 2023, Larrie Smith (68) was found guilty of Assault and Battery in the Second Degree following a two day jury trial. The Honorable Robert Hood sentenced Larrie Smith to three (3) years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections, the maximum sentence allowed by law.
The State presented evidence to the jury that on February 22, 2018, Larrie Smith assaulted the victim in Forest Acres in an unprovoked attack while she stood on the porch of Smith’s home. Smith proceeded to attack the victim with such force that the victim was thrown from the porch onto the ground. Smith stepped off the porch and began repeatedly kicking and punching the victim over her entire body. Two witnesses observed the beating and called 911, but Smith fled the scene before police arrived.
The victim’s left wrist and hand were broken in multiple places during the attack. She remains unable to fully use her left hand and wrist. The victim sustained three rib fractures, a broken left wrist, cuts, and scrapes.
