Tuesday, March 15, 2022, a Richland County jury found Delrico Edmonds of Lexington County, guilty of Murder and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime.  The Honorable Clifton Newman sentenced Delrico Edmonds, 31, to thirty (30) years in prison.

The facts presented to the jury were that on May 25, 2020, defendant, Delrico Edmonds shot and killed 38 year old Jamie Wooden.  Edmonds drove to a Columbia home located on the 3700 block of Fern Avenue with the sole intention of confronting the victim, Jamie Wooden about the repayment of a debt. When Edmonds arrived at the home, he got out of his car, pulled his handgun and fired one round into the victim’s chest; he died soon after.  Edmonds was arrested by the Columbia Police Department.

Edmonds took the stand and claimed self-defense. After starting the trial on Monday, the jury rejected the Defendant’s story and unanimously found him guilty of Murder and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime the following day.

During the sentencing phase, members of the Victim’s family addressed the Court and shared the pain and grief they have suffered since the tragic loss of Jamie Wooden to gun violence. The Victim’s family thanked Senior Assistant Solicitor Dale Scott and Walt Whitmire, for seeking justice in this case.
