Eric Wright pled guilty to failure to stop for a blue light and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon on Sept. 9. The Honorable Daniel Coble sentenced Wright to the maximum of three years for failure to stop and a concurrent three-year sentence for the firearm charge.

On Dec. 12, 2024, Richland County Sheriff’s Department deputies attempted a traffic stop on Wright. The defendant refused to stop, initiating a high-speed chase down Highway 215.

The chase lasted 20 minutes and reached speeds up to 110 mph. It ended when Wright’s vehicle hit a deer, becoming disabled.

The Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office, represented by Assistant Solicitor Nick Fowler, prosecuted the case.

The Fifth Judicial Circuit is committed to maintaining the safety of Richland County streets as car chases become more frequent.
