On June 18, a Richland County jury convicted John Henry Dial Jr. of domestic violence in the first degree. The Honorable Milton G. Kimpson sentenced Dial to seven years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections, followed by two years of probation.

The verdict followed a three-day trial during which jurors heard testimony that on July 1, 2024, Dial physically assaulted a household member, causing injury. Deputies with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department arrested him the same day.

Jurors also heard evidence of Dial’s prior convictions for domestic violence. This marks his eighth conviction for similar offenses.

Richland County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Timothy Ehrhart led the investigation. The Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office, represented by Assistant Solicitors Nick Fowler and Emily Burn, prosecuted the case.
