On Feb. 19, Alicia Nicole Hicks, an inmate within the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) at the time of the offense, pleaded guilty to criminal conspiracy, furnishing contraband, and trafficking methamphetamine more than 10 grams but less than 28 grams – second offense. The Honorable Heath Taylor sentenced Hicks to a total of 13 years in the SCDC.

On Jan. 20, 2023, the SCDC of Inspector General responded to an attempt to smuggle approximately 12 grams of methamphetamine into the Camille Griffin Graham Correctional Institution. During a routine search, correctional officers located and seized the methamphetamine from another inmate, whom they identified as a co-conspirator of Hicks.

Investigators determined that Hicks coordinated the acquisition of the methamphetamine and directed where it was to be delivered on prison grounds. She also instructed others to relocate the drugs when they were not placed in the intended location and arranged for their retrieval.

The Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office prosecuted the case. Assistant Solicitors Tia Reed, Jenny Desch, and Gabrielle Sharp led the prosecution. The SCDC of Inspector General investigated the conspiracy.
