A Richland County jury convicted Angela Williams of reckless homicide on June 24 after about 30 minutes of deliberation. The Honorable Misti Shelton sentenced Williams to six years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

On Dec. 2, 2024, Williams was speeding on Farrow Road when she ran a red light at the intersection of Wilkes Road and Farrow Road. She struck an ambulance carrying a 76-year-old to a medical appointment. The victim succumbed to blunt force trauma injuries several hours after the collision.

Expert analysis determined that Williams was traveling at approximately 60 mph in a 40-mph zone. At the time of the collision, the defendant had a suspended license for failure to pay a speeding ticket.

City of Columbia Police Officer James Lierer with the Traffic Safety Unit and South Carolina Highway Patrol Sgt. Phillip Darnell with the Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) investigated the case.

Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office Assistant Solicitors Nick Fowler and Paul Walton represented the State.
