Kiante’ De-mar Siler pleaded guilty on Dec. 17 to two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and to possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The Honorable Debra R. McCaslin sentenced Siler to seven years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

On June 21, 2024, a group of teenagers gathered at Bridge Creek Elementary School for a water gun fight during summer break. A fight broke out between the two groups, and a bystander intervened to stop the fight.

As the victim and their friends were leaving, Siler grabbed a rifle from his car and fired shots at the victim. The gunfire struck the victim in the lower body.

Surveillance footage shows Siler firing additional rounds while chasing the victim’s car. The victim survived the shooting but sustained injuries that will affect them for the rest of their life.

A witness identified Siler in a six-person lineup.

The Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office prosecuted the case. Assistant Solicitor Nick Fowler led the prosecution.
